Women in Leadership Conference 2010 – Keynote: Kamala Harris, San Francisco District Attorney
In 2003, Kamala Harris was elected as the first woman District Attorney in San Francisco’s history, and as the first African American woman and South Asian American woman in California to hold the office. As San Francisco DA, Harris has focused intensively on fighting violent crime. She has increased conviction rates for serious and violent offenses, expanded services to victims of crime and their families, created new prosecution divisions focused on child assault, public integrity and environmental crimes, and launched innovative re-entry initiatives to prevent re-offending. Introduction: Nora Silver, Director, Nonprofit and Public Leadership, Haas School.
The University of California Berkeley Haas School of Business is one of the world’s leading producers of new ideas and knowledge in all areas of business – which includes the distinction of having two of its faculty members receive the Nobel Prize in Economics over the past 15 years. The school offers six degree-granting programs. Its mission is to develop innovative business leaders – individuals who redefine how we do business by putting new ideas into action, and who do so responsibly. The school’s distinctive culture is defined by four key principles – question the status quo; confidence without attitude; students always; and, beyond yourself.
