The winding road toward gender equality has been a long one, and there is still much more for us to discover and traverse before we get there. One of the domains where this gender gap is most salient is leadership. Renzo J. Barrantes discusses the current trends in female representation, the burgeoning research questions and findings on women in leadership, and what each of us can do to ensure that women attain their rightful seats at the table. Renzo J. Barrantes is a Doctoral Candidate in Industrial and Organizational Psychology at Florida International University and is currently wrapping up his dissertation project entitled “A re-examination of the double bind dilemma: Assessing the moderating role of leader sexual orientation” in which he explores how a leader’s gender, sexuality, and leadership style interact to affect important outcomes for them and their subordinates in the hopes of better understanding the phenomenon of leadership for women and sexual minorities in the workplace. He also works full-time as a Data Analyst at Clutch Prep, an educational tech startup, and is an Adjunct Professor of Psychology at Florida International University. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at
