In recent years, the concept of fatherhood and how society perceives fathers has undergone a transformation.
While women bore the brunt of caring responsibilities during the pandemic, there was also a surge in the amount of time that fathers were spending with their children, with the Office for National Statistics finding there was a 58% increase in childcare undertaken by men during the first lockdown.
But this is just one part of a broader, long-term shift towards fathers becoming increasingly empowered to take on more active roles in their children’s lives – yet concerns linger around the affordability of and access to adequate parental leave and flexible working.
