IATA’s Women in Aviation Leadership Diploma (WALD) is a five-module career development program. The inaugural program was sponsored by the IATA Training Fund and the South African Airways Academy of Learning in Johannesburg, and ran from October to December 2018, for female staff from any African airline.
The objective of WALD is to strengthen the capacities and skills of the young female workforce and increase women’s representation in leadership positions in aviation, which is still to a large extent a male-dominated industry. At the same time, the program contributes to the overall gender equality agenda in the aviation industry.
We asked participants from the WALD program why they chose to join the diploma program, which courses they enjoyed the most,
their thoughts on the course content and instructors, and how having a diploma from IATA will help in their career.
